Student Profile: Zoe Rowe

Zoe Rowe may be the modern Snow White, surrounding herself with possums, cats, skunks, and other fluffy animals. After transferring to Texas State from Austin Community College in 2020, Zoe began her journey to become a Veterinarian. She’s well on her way to finishing her undergraduate degree and plans to apply to Veterinary school at Texas A&M or Texas Tech to finish her training.

Zoe is Austin born and raised, spending her summers as a Barton Springs lifeguard and exploring the nature trails in the city. She attended Westwood High School in Round Rock, and she always loved how openminded Austinites were.

“I enjoy that the city feels so vibrant,” Zoe said. “I enjoyed all the places to hike.”

Like many others, it was a journey for Zoe to find her passion. She originally wanted to study theater and then forensics. After watching her boyfriend’s family humanely put down their cat, she decided she wanted to work with living things.

“It’s a peaceful thing to give families that resolution,” Zoe said.

Zoe is now working as a Vet Tech at Southpark Animal Hospital. Although she comes home with scratches and bruises from wrangling animals, she loves her career so far.

Outside of classes, Zoe enjoys rock climbing at the Rec Center and being a part of Stelos Scholars. She took the Housley Principled Leadership course this fall and was able to bond with a close-knit group of students.

“I appreciate that Stelos Scholars is a smaller, more diverse group,” Zoe said.
