Student Profile: Jordan Garner

Jordan Garner with New Student Orientation

As a part of Texas State’s “COVID Class,” the group of students who started college in 2020, Jordan Garner only knew her roommate for her first year. She had a non-traditional start to college, but she slowly started to branch out and make new friends. She joined the female empowerment group, Women of Gold, and became a new student orientation leader. Now a couple years later, Jordan is a student coordinator and working her way through a degree in Public Relations.

“I’ve gotten to speak to a lot of groups as a new student coordinator,” Jordan said. “It’s helped me develop as a professional.”

Jordan grew up in Dallas, Texas with parents who supported and provided for her. When she was thirteen and just about to start high school, her dad passed away.

“I was struggling to figure out who I was,” Jordan said. “I wasn’t able to cope with it.”

Jordan Garner graduating high school

Jordan pushed herself to keep going and stay busy during high school. She was in choir, NHS, volleyball and debate all while attending a fully collegiate high school. She graduated high school with an associate’s degree and is now a senior in credit hours at Texas State.

All of Jordan’s hard work while coping with her father’s death has paid off. She plans on graduating in the next year and starting a masters in HR or Corporate Communications.
