Student Profile: Madison Green

Madison Green is from the small town of Early, Texas that’s known for being at the exact center of the state. As a person of color not interested in farming, Madison had a hard time fitting in with the majority white, agricultural town. She found herself drawn to leadership roles and academic programs.

“Being an only child propelled me to do a lot of extracurriculars,” Madison said.

Before even applying to Texas State, Madison went to yearly competitions in San Marcos for her gifted and talented program. She didn’t realize that San Marcos had a university until she started applying for schools.

“Now every time I drive past the competition center in San Marcos, I laugh to myself a little,” Madison said.

Texas State was the first university Madison applied to, and she knew it was the place for her after touring. She was sitting in a session in the Honors College when Dr. Galloway started playing the soundtrack to Hamilton. It was intimate, homey and the soundtrack made her feel right at home.

There was something really magnetic about Texas State. I just couldn’t put my finger on it.

Madison is now a sophomore living in the Honors LLC and working as an RA at Laurel Hall. She plans to go into higher education or research human sexuality after graduating.
