Student Spotlight: Emily Morrow
Emily Morrow is the 2024 recipient of the Lumberton High School Endeavor Scholarship.
In 2017, Lumberton High School alumni Matthew Gray and Matthew Priest met to discuss ways to give back to the various communities that have made them successful professionals. Lumberton High School was one of the first of these communities for the various roles and responsibilities it allowed both individuals to undertake, not only as students but also through athletics and student organizations. As such, Mr. Gray and Mr. Priest decided to launch The LHS Endeavor Scholarship and award the first scholarship in the amount of $5,000 at the 2018 Lumberton High School Senior Awards night.
Emily Morrow was born in Beaumont, Texas and eventually moved to Lumberton, Texas. Emily has always been active and was a dancer for eleven years before she switched to cheerleading in middle school. She grew up with four siblings and currently works at The Tree restaurant, which is a local steak house in Lumberton.
Emily is attending Baylor University this fall and plans to major in Health Science in the pre-physician’s assistant route. Originally, she looked at Baylor because her boyfriend goes there. After looking into Baylor’s programs, she found that this school fit her future career goals as well.
“I looked into a lot of different colleges, and I think going off to Baylor will help me grow,” Emily said.
Emily grew up religious and went to private school until seventh grade. Baylor is a religious school, so it made the decision easier for her and her family. The LHS Endeavor Scholarship will help Emily and her family pay for college.
“I’m really grateful for it because it’s given me the opportunity to go a prestigious school,” Emily said.
