Student Spotlight: Lauren Swiney

Meet Lauren Swiney, the 2024 recipient of the Carol and John Garrison Leadership Award.

Lauren is a graduate student with a passion for helping students navigate their way to and through college. This is exactly what Carol and John Garrison did for countless students at Texas State, so she was a perfect fit for this award.

“Being a single mom has very much been a challenge for me financially,” Lauren Swiney said. “But if you put your mind to something, you’ll be able to do anything.”

Lauren is a Graduate Assistant success coach where she helps students through their academic journeys and hardships. She worked with the TRIO program, and she advised first generation students at San Marcos High School. Lauren also assisted with the TXST Bridge program where she mentored a group of high schoolers attending an on-campus program.
