Student Spotlight: Rhiannon Moss

Rhiannon Moss is the 2023 recipient of the Durrenberger Women in Science scholarship.

Rhiannon is from Waco, Texas majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in Arabic. As acknowledgment for her 4.0 GPA, Rhiannon was recognized on the Dean’s List and is a member of the Honors College. She was the Gaillardia and Chataqua Hall president and a Supplemental Instructor for Engineering Chemistry. Rhiannon dedicates her time and expertise to helping others succeed.

“When I first decided I wanted to go to college, I didn’t have a lot of money,” Rhiannon said. “But with this scholarship, I’m going to be able to pay for it.”

In 2023, Shelby Galvin, a Texas State 2014 graduate, decided to give back to her Texas State community by supporting this scholarship for women in STEM. Shelby has a passion for “fintech”, which is a combination of finance and technology. She wants to help women become leaders in this field, and agreed to help grow this scholarship by increasing the top undergraduate award to $5,000 annually.

Rhiannon relies on scholarships, like the Durrenberger Women in Science award, to continue her schooling. Scholarships make it possible for Rhiannon and women like her to have future careers in Engineering, a male-dominated industry.
