Bobcat Bucket List #90: Dress Up and Attend River Fest

Once called Gaillardia Fest, River Fest is Texas State’s free music festival where students get to dress up and listen to music from well known bands. This event is for current students only and requires a student ID to enter.

After sixteen years of River Fest, Texas State changed the name to Gaillardia Fest in 2019. They then changed the name back to River Fest in 2024. The festival has featured big names in the past like Alison Wonderland and Tyga.

Historically, River Fest was organized by the Student Association for Student Activities and used to be held in Sewell Park. This was SACA’s largest event with 3,000-4,000 students attending. As the student body grew, SACA rebranded the event and moved it to Bobcat Stadium.

In addition to live music, there are events throughout the day. In past years, they’ve held ESports tournaments, student talent competitions, and carnival games. These free competitions give students a chance to win Amazon gift cards! There’s no need to pack a lunch because food trucks with concessions are available for purchase.

River Fest happens each April, and you can find more information on SACA’s social media.
