Bobcat Bucket List #83: Play Disc Golf at Flying Armadillo

San Marcos is ranked 13th for the best disc golf courses in Texas. There are five courses in the city, and three of them have at least 18 holes.

With a rating of 4.8/5 stars and over 2,000 reviewers, Flying Armadillo is the preferred disc golf course. They advertise their course as “Putt-Putt for Disc Golf,” which refers to the array of sculptures and obstacles that you play around.

There are two Flying Armadillo courses to choose from. The 18-Hole Gold Mini course is a great place to start. Each hole is 100 feet long on average, but they’re still kid and beginner friendly. The 18-Hole Big Course is full of Hill Country terrain with oak trees and dry creek beds to walk through. The course is accommodating for all skill levels and has advanced, intermediate, and novice tee boxes. Both courses are open 365 days a year unless there’s a special event taking place.

Flying Armadillo has plenty of events that make disc golf fun, even in the hot summer months. They host Friday Night Lights, which starts at sundown. Players use glow-in-the-dark frisbees and anything else needed for glow golf for rent in their shop. Other events include tournaments for club members, which often have payouts for the winners.

The Pro Shop at each Flying Armadillo location has gear to rent and snacks and drinks available for purchase. It costs $10 per person to play the course plus $2.50 if you want to rent a disc.
