Student Spotlight: Katelyn Drew

Whenever you see leopard print, think Katelyn Drew. From a fashionista to a student leader, Katelyn Drew has become a common face to see around campus. This icon wears many hats. She is part of the McCoy College Ambassadors and Gamma Phi Beta Sorority while being a Resident Assistant and teaching group exercise classes.

From her accomplishments, it is obvious that Katelyn excels in leadership positions. Yet, a surprising fact is that Katelyn never had a mentor herself. Before transferring to Texas State, Katelyn looked to her Resident Assistant for help, but didn’t receive the direction she needed.

It was previous lackluster interactions like this that spurred Katelyn’s desire to help others.

“I want to be that person that is super cool who people look up to and take guidance from,” Katelyn said.

Many of the skills that Katelyn has learned through her time at Texas State heavily relate to her avant-garde post-grad plans. Katelyn plans to keep inspiring others as a Cruise Director. To gain experience in her field, she interned at Carnival Cruise as an activity host.

As a people person and leader, it is no surprise that Katelyn would thrive in this position. Her desire for creating memorable experiences will lead her far in life.

“I have a passion for making people happy,” Katelyn said.

However, before she sets sail, Katelyn is going to graduate and fulfill her favorite Texas State tradition: jumping in the river.
