History of the Scholarship
Jennifer Lirette is a Texas State University dedicated Bobcat, and Housley Principled Leadership Program graduate. Jennifer credits much of her personal and professional success to her time at Texas State, where she benefited from opportunities that extended her learning beyond the classroom, through extracurricular leadership roles, volunteer service, and campus involvement. Through this scholarship, she aims to help provide an opportunity to a fellow Bobcat to assist with additional costs that accompany attending nursing school.
The Lirette Leadership Nursing Scholarship, worth $1,000, will be awarded for the first time to two students in Fall 2025. It will be awarded annually and funded by Jennifer Lirette and designated donations to the Stelos Alliance.
· Students must have completed two full years at Texas State University to be eligible.
· Students must be accepted into Texas State University’s Nursing School.
· Students must have served in a leadership role for one semester.
· The applicant must be enrolled in 12 hours or more at the time of selection and considered a full-time student.
· Students must have an overall Texas State GPA of at least 3.0.
· The recipients will be in good standing with the University during selection.
· Students must complete the entire application process by the due date.
· As part of the application process, a 250–500-word explanation of why they chose the nursing profession and what impact they intend to make once becoming a nurse.
· Students must submit an updated resume.

The Scholarship shall be presented annually at the Stelos Alliance Scholarship Awards Banquet. The time and place are to be determined by Stelos Alliance but will be in San Marcos, TX.
The Bustillos Mariachi Excellence Awards, established in 2025 by Sheila Bustillos, Ph.D. to provide two $500 annual scholarships to help Texas State students pursue their goals without financial barriers.
The Nations Family established their scholarship to support undergraduates dedicated to DEIA, especially those advocating for the LGBTQIA+ community and transgender rights.
Linda and Marcellus Alexander are both strong advocates of higher education. They are committed to mentoring and helping students successfully navigate their college and life paths. Scholarship support is one important aspect of their focus.
