Bobcat Bucket List #50: Participate in SMTX Pride
Cheetah Daniels Kennedy said it best, “Every day is pride for us.” This is the type of high energy & celebration SMTX Pride brings to our community.
Hosted annually in September and timed perfectly to include the new class of bobcats, our pride celebration is San Marcos’s way to remain united in the midst of violence and discrimination directed toward the LGBTQIA+ community. Filled with a mix of lively college students and loving families, pride is the perfect place to release your inhibitions and enjoy a day full of love and laughter!
The SMTX Pride celebration kicks off with an anti-bullying march followed by the festival, which takes place in the midst of the weekly farmer's market outside of the Hays County Courthouse. The path is lined with vendors and sponsors selling everything from fresh produce and plants to handmade body products and art.
“Pride to me means feeling safe and forgetting that the world is almost always evil to you, but not right now. I just feel happy right now,” said Texas State alumni and current worker for Undergraduate Admissions, Vanessa Galvan (Summer 2022).
The heart of SMTX Pride is the incredible community members, activists, families, and college students you meet during the day. Everyone comes out for one specific reason - to celebrate that love is love, which creates an unbeatable sense of collective connectivity.
“To me, it means being able to love who you love without people judging you for it,” said senior Criminal Justice major, Jon’Dasha Price.
There truly is something for everyone to enjoy at SMTX Pride! Visit their website to learn how you can get involved next year.
