Bobcat Bucket List #58: Rock Climb at the Rec
The Recreation Center has rows upon rows of treadmills and weights, but did you know it also has a climbing center? Climbing is a great way to meet new friends and build muscle in a low-impact way.
If you’ve never climbed before, the pros at the center are there to help. The climbing center offers both top rope belay and lead climbing classes for beginners.
Top rope is your standard type of rock climbing, which involves one person on the ground belaying and one person attached with a harness and top rope. Lead climbing is more involved for the climber since they must hook the rope into carabiners as they climb. While they’re still safely tied in with a person belaying on the ground, they have less support to pull them up the wall.
With your semester membership, you can go to these clinics for free. If you’re a member, you also get access to free rental equipment such as shoes, harnesses, and chalk bags.
Day passes are only $5 for students and $6 for everyone else. If you like your day climb, you can purchase a semester pass for only $50. See rates here.
