Bobcat Bucket List #69: Visit Earth Day San Marcos

For the past 10 years the San Marcos Meadows Center has been hosting an Earth Day festival to celebrate the Earth through entertainment, education, and exploration.

The event is held at the headwaters of the San Marcos River, celebrating the local San Marcos natural resources. The event is family-friendly and open to people of all ages.

At the festival they offer free activities such as glass bottom boat tours, a petting zoo, as well as an arts and craft station where you can learn to make and fly your own kite! At Earth Day San Marcos there are over 40 eco-friendly vendors and exhibitors that highlight environmentally friendly and sustainability topics.

If you find yourself needing a break from the heat, the Meadows Center is open to all visitors. Inside you can find ancient artifacts found in the San Marcos River and even see the local endangered species, the Blind Salamander.

If you are interested in learning about sustainability topics, you may like to visit the Texas State Bobcat Farms booth where Texas State students are creating a farm to produce locally grown foods that they sell at the farmers market. You can also visit the Native Plant Society of Texas booth to learn about plants that are native to the San Marcos area. Through their organization, they offer a Native Landscape Certification Program to teach you how to plant locally.

Visit the next annual Earth Day San Marcos in April at the Meadows Center on San Marcos Springs Drive.
