Bobcat Bucket List #40

Bobcat Bucket List #40 : Take Your Picture with Boko

Texas State was the first college to have a bobcat as their mascot. Now for over 100 years, Boko the Bobcat has been the spirit of Texas State.

According to Texas State, Boko has a 4.0 GPA, he loves skydiving, and he knows how to ride a unicycle. You can find Boko dressed in uniform at football and basketball games, but he also appears at pep rallies and other special Texas State events. If you can catch him, take a picture with him and check it off your Bobcat Bucket List.

Before Boko, Texas State didn’t have a mascot. Each individual team named themselves things like the Nymphs, the Wonders, and the Goblins. In 1921, the student council decided they needed a unified mascot. They chose the bobcat because of its courage to keep fighting but didn’t choose the name Boko until the 1960’s.

A bobcat will fight you with everything he has - four claws, teeth, speed and brains.
— Athletic Director Oscar Strahan (1919)
