Alumni Profile: Michael Flowers
Michael Flowers didn’t have the typical college experience. After graduating high school during the time the attacks on 9-11 happened, Michael decided to enlist in the Marines. He was on active duty in the Iraq war until 2006 when he was allowed to go to college.
As a 22 year old freshman, Michael needed a way to make friends other than in the dorms. He joined the Phi Delta fraternity, ended up on the student foundation, and eventually worked with the Dean of Students to connect with Bill Poston.
“He was the first professional that I really looked up to as a mentor in the business world,” Micheal said about Bill.
Michael went from cutting Bill’s lawn to make extra cash to becoming lifelong friends. He even interned at Stelos Alliance in our early days.
Now Michael works in the ever-changing commercial real estate market in Dallas. He loves his job because of the strong ethics and moral standards that his coworkers hold.
“The unique relationships with people I have in my industry are important to me. They’re the best group of people I’ve ever met,” Michael said.
Through these relationships and his time in the Marines and Texas State, Michael has learned the importance of vulnerability, asking for help and absorbing knowledge from others.
“One of the things that I’ve learned over the past few years is the art of enjoying the process versus the end result,” he said.
