Alumni Profile: Erik Darmstetter
In the 1980’s, Erik Darmstetter rushed and joined a fraternity, but something bothered him. It wasn’t hazing, living in a house or going to endless parties that bothered Erik. It was the clothing.
Immediately after seeing the ugly maroon frat sweatshirts with gold ink, Erik decided he needed to redesign their attire. He released fun, funny, and sometimes risque multi-color shirts that quickly became a trend around Texas.
“I was accidentally in the t-shirt business for six universities,” Erik said.
By 1989 business was growing so quickly that Erik was hired to start divisions of the printing company he used in San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Austin. Eriks part of the business became a $2 million a year company, and Erik moved onto more entrepreneurial adventures in consulting and branding.
Finally, Erik started a company that he plans to stay at for the foreseeable future. He started selling used office and hotel furniture from foreclosed businesses.
Imagine Facebook Marketplace or Offer up but in a showroom where you can see, feel and touch all the items at once. Erik’s company, Office Furniture Liquidations was profitable from day one and is now San Antonio's top rated furniture store and largest used and new office furniture company.
“I fall more in love every day,” Erik said.
He enjoys his business so much that he spends most of his free time educating himself and finding new opportunities to expand. The new green initiatives sweeping the country make this an asset for young people looking to buy nice, used furniture.
Other than his booming business career, Erik wants to coach students in entrepreneurship. This is a quest to coach people who also aren’t going to college and want to be in their own business.
