Student Profile: Trey Gomez
Trey Gomez’s lifelong dream was to work for Nascar. From a young age, his dad got him into racing and his extended family often took him to the Texas Motor Speedway.
“I still have those memories in the back of my head,” Trey said.
Last year, Trey’s professors, his thesis mentor and the Stelos Alliance encouraged him to apply for Nascar’s Diversity Internship. Now, Trey is living in Daytona for the summer interning for Nascar and making connections that could lead to a future career in the racing industry.
“I’ve always grown up enthralled with the sport, but I never thought it was achievable to be a part of,” Trey said.
Through Nascar’s diversity initiatives, he finally sees a place for himself there. He’s able to be a part of a supportive team and write content for the Nascar Truck Series.
“It’s been a blast,” Trey said. “This is everything a lifelong fan could have asked for.”
Trey is going into his senior year at Texas State and his last year as a Stelos Scholar. He’s open to new experiences more than ever.
“It’s my last year so I’m along for the ride,” he said.
