Memory Lane: The Coast
Hundreds of college students dressed in stretchy tights and big t-shirts gathered at The Coast every week in the late 80’s and early 90’s for aerobics and rollerskating. The Coast was a roller-rink by day and a nightclub by night, serving up “Nickel Pitchers” of beer on Tuesdays.
Fraternities and sororities held pageants and events at The Coast, but one event was by far the favorite amongst the Greek community. The “Mr. Southwest Texas Legs Contest” was a tightest fitting jeans competition for the men of SWT. The yearbook from 1989 even shows men exercising in The Rec to build muscle for this contest.
The Coast was around for less than a decade, and no roller-rink has replaced it in San Marcos.
