Bobcat Bucket List #48 : Visit the Secret Bar in Valentino’s Pizza

Valentino’s pizza restaurant and bar just reopened on August 3rd on the San Marcos square. This historic spot has been around since 1981 and was named after the founder’s cat, Valentino. With slices served at the pickup window until 3am and cheap beer served until 2am, this historic pizza spot has been a cult classic for Texas State students.

Over the decades, Valentino’s changed ownership a few times and went in and out of debt. In 2018, they quietly closed and didn’t reopen until Cody Taylor and Harlan Scott, owners of Industry, purchased it and reopened the place that served so many. Cody Taylor was a Texas State alumni who graduated in 2008, and he’s excited to support Texas State students again.

The most talked about item on the menu was always the Cheese Breadsticks, made out of pizza dough covered in cheese and garlic butter. The original pizza recipe has changed, but the new owners say it’s better than ever.

Exit through the back door of Valentino’s, past the arcade game, and you’ll find a secret bar. They’re known for their $2 happy hour and other cheap drink specials served late.
