Bobcat Bucket List #65: Buy Fresh at the Farmer’s Market
Each Saturday morning, the San Marcos square is filled with vendors, students, and visitors excited to buy seasonal food and listen to live music. If you’re interested in supporting local businesses and are looking for a great source of fresh foods, this is the spot for you!
This weekly Farmers Market has multiple gems to offer including fresh produce, sustainable products from the local Manor Market Refillery, hand-crafted jewelry, and fresh baked goods. Plants and flowers are also available to purchase if you are interested in learning how to grow for yourself!
If you’re starting a garden:
If you are looking to start growing your own foods at home, check out Sustainable San Marcos. They sell ready-to-plant seedlings as a fundraiser to support two local community gardens.
If you’re buying fresh:
If you’re shopping for pesticide-free produce and eggs, stop by Daniel’s Garden. Daniel Velasquez has been selling eggs from his 300 chickens for the past 10 years. You can find him and his seasonal fruits and vegetables at a center booth in the farmer’s market.
You can visit the market from 9am-1pm on San Antonio Street. If you’re interested in being a vendor, you can attend the market’s annual meeting or email smtx.farmersmkt@gmail.com.
