Bobcat Bucket List #29 : Try a Manske Roll at Gils

Gils Broiler and Manske Roll Bakery has been making their famous Manske Rolls since the 1940’s. Often times, you can smell them baking in the early morning before the sun rises. While eating a Manske Roll every morning might not be the best for your New Year’s Resolution, they are free of preservatives and made to order.

If you don’t take our word for how good these rolls are, take the late President LBJ’s! He ate a Manske Roll on a visit back to campus in the 1940’s and loved it so much he had some sent all the way to the White House when he became President.

Manske Rolls are similar to a cinnamon roll, but you can customize them with different ice creams and toppings. An all-time favorite is the “Warm Manske Roll A la Mode,” which is a warmed roll topped with Amy’s Vanilla Ice Cream. If you aren’t an ice cream fan, you can try yours with bacon or melted chocolate chips.

Order yours fresh or get a pack to-go at their store located at 328 N LBJ Dr in San Marcos.
