Alumni Profile: Sami McLane

After spending 11 years as a history teacher, Sami Mclane kicked off the 2021 school year as an Assistant Principal in Georgetown, TX.

“I never saw myself being in the education world let alone being an assistant principal,” Sami said.

During her time at Texas State, Sami wasn’t sure what she wanted to do career-wise. She knew she wanted a job that was exciting and changed every day, but she never saw herself as a teacher.

Sami had lots of fun partying and making friends at Texas State, but it wasn’t until later in her college career when she got involved with Student Foundation that she found her footing. Sami balanced classes, organizations and still had fun through college until she graduated in 2010. She started right away teaching high school history.

It’s been 11 years now and Sami still loves her job because she gets to connect with students. She considered other higher-paying careers, but she couldn’t leave the fun of being in the classroom.

“One note from a kid is worth anything in the world,” she said.

Now Sami just started her first year in administration working with a great principal. She hopes that with her wider reach she can empower more students.
