Visit the Green Parrot
The Green Parrot is a classic college bar on the square that’s been serving up good fun and great drinks to generations of Texas State students and alumni since 1982. The narrow bar in the front opens up to a roomier space in the back. Until a recent renovation, the bar has a timeless quality. This was mainly due to the 40-year-old carpet, seating and artwork (not to mention the writing and carving on the bathroom walls).
Soaking up the ambiance of the Green Parrot on a Saturday afternoon, stopping in for a happy hour or joining the lively crowd on a Thursday night provides every Bobcat with the opportunity to have the experience they most desire. If you don’t have a go-to cocktail, just ask the bartender to pour you whatever is most popular at the time.
The senior staff of the Stelos Alliance loves the Green Parrot so much they offer a scholarship in memory of one of the men that checked IDs at the door in 1985. This is an essential item that should be high on every Bobcat’s bucket list. Many a night has been spent at the Green Parrot telling and retelling stories that may, or may not be, completely true.
