Student Spotlight: Alena Lantz-Morales

Meet Alena Lantz-Morales, a senior graduating in May and the 2026 recipient of the Carol and John Garrison Leadership Award. Originally from Victoria, Texas, Alena found herself calling Texas State home after attending Bobcat Day in high school. Being from a small town and originally intending to follow in her parents’ footsteps, she didn’t envision herself going away to college. However, after seeing the campus for herself and being welcomed by many friendly faces, Alena knew she belonged in San Marcos.

Back in high school, Alena knew she didn’t want a routine, 9–5 job during her four years at university. She desired a job where she would have a big impact on others, and in the spring semester of her freshman year, she became a Resident Assistant (RA). Alena has spent the last three and a half years as an RA, helping residents navigate their first-year experience, hosting monthly programs for those on her floor, and working with a close-knit team of other RAs.

When Alena isn’t on-call, she’s growing her professional skills alongside her fellow members of Gold Star Society, Texas State’s presidential ambassador organization. Alongside many student leaders like Alena, she helps out at campus events, builds meaningful connections, and further develops professional skills.

In addition to her RA shifts and her involvement in Gold Star, Alena also serves as a University Ambassador. Inspired by an ambassador she met at her own Bobcat Day, she joined the organization her freshman year. Since then, she has served as vice president, helped with presidential duties during her junior year, and currently leads as the director of events.

After graduating in May with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a minor in communication studies, Alena will attend Texas A&M University to pursue a master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education. She hopes to build a career in university housing before eventually becoming a dean of students. Alena has already accepted a graduate residential director position at A&M, fueled by an aspiration to try new things and make the most out of her journey.

Alena’s four years at Texas State have helped her grow in many ways, with community remaining at the heart of her experience.

“Many people here at Texas State make me feel like I belong,” Alena said.
