Student Spotlight: Aaniyah Campbell
Meet Aaniyah Campbell, a sophomore studying Public Relations. Originally from Boston, Aaniyah moved to Houston six years ago and has lived with her family since. She chose Texas State University for its First Generation friendliness and affordability.
During Aaniyah’s freshman year, she joined the Residence Hall Association’s (RHA) Hall Council, intending to build community within her hall and gain strong leadership skills. Throughout her first semester, she grew close with the RHA Executive Board and helped at many of their campus-wide events. In the Spring, Aaniyah applied to join the Executive Board and was selected as the 2024-2025 RHA Executive Administration Coordinator.
Throughout this year, Aaniyah has overseen RHA’s budget for the events and Hall Council leadership conferences. Her favorite part of the role has been learning how to manage a budget and collaborating with a team to plan events. The most rewarding aspect of serving, Aaniyah said, is “working with our amazing director, Syd, and my fantastic fellow board members.”
This upcoming year, Aaniyah will serve as the RHA Executive President advocating for the entire residence body in committees, and leading the executive board.
When she isn’t busy with her executive duties, Aaniyah is a student staff member for the Student Association of Programming and Campus Activities and is the financial coordinator for the Black Student Alliance. Outside of school, Aaniyah enjoys going to the gym, going on hikes, and cooking.
This past Homecoming, Aaniyah was crowned Gaillardia, a title she campaigned for because she enjoys being involved on campus. Every year, 12 students are elected to serve on the Gaillardian Court, representing what it means to be a dedicated and hard-working Bobcat.
Those close to Aaniyah would describe her as adaptable, energetic, hard-working, and someone who makes everyone feel welcome.
Despite only being at Texas State for two years, Aaniyah has made strong strides in leaving a lasting mark across campus. Once she graduates, Aaniyah has aspirations to start a fulfilling and successful marketing career.
